The 130th Scottish National Trout Fly Fishing Championship
Sponsored by Ridgeline UK, 7plus7 Construction and R&E Hygiene was held at Lake of Menteith yesterday.
62 competitors headed out on a fresh autumn morning, all with the hope of becoming the Scottish champion or making the international teams for next year.
A fairly even split of boats occured between road shore and Lochend and Gateside.
A calm start led to a fresh NW wind later in the day but at least it stayed dry.
At the conclusion, it was apparent that one rod had done better than all of the others but the spots in the Scottish team were much more closely contested.
The winner on the day, and Scottish National Champion was the ever consistent Tyler Hay representing Lintrathen FF. Tyler is also an international cap in the small water team and he used his skill in fishing static flies under a bung to land 18 fish for a total weight of 38lbs 13.2ozs.
2nd place went to Martin McCafferty of Future FF, He landed 13 fish for 28lbs 13ozs.
3rd place went to Gregor Fleming of Bridge of Weir AC who landed 13 fish for a total weight of 26lbs 10ozs.
Full results are attached. The cut point for the team was 17lbs 10.5ozs.
Heaviest fish on the day was a rainbow of 5lbs 4.4ozs landed by John Simpson.
The 62 anglers landed a total of 413 fish for a total weight of 906lbs 11.8ozs giving a rod average of 6.7. Each returned fish was awarded 2lbs.
The fishery would like to congratulate all of the competitors for their participation and to the champion and qualifiers.
We would also like to thank the SANACC committee for their work and a special mention goes to Stewart Marhsall who has been piping the anglers out for the past 12 years. This was Stewart’s last year of doing this but we will still see him out fishing.
Watch out for a video which will posted soon with footage of the competition.
