October Summary / 2003 summary

The year finished on a high note with some excellent catches and some fine looking fish. The average catch for October was 4.3 fish per boat hire for 11lbs. This is the best October on record and hopefully there will be some quality over-wintered fish in the spring.
The final average boat catch for the whole year was 3.87 fish for 8lbs 6oz. The average weight of the fish this year was 2lbs 2½ oz. A full summary of the year will shortly be posted up at

Kirk and School Fundayraiser

On Sunday 2nd November, the last day of the 2003 trout season at the Lake of Menteith, the Fishery Board donated all proceeds from permit sales to the Port of Menteith Kirk and Primary School. This raised £1000. £268 was raised by a raffle and a further £220 from donations to the soup and barbeque fund - giving a grand total of £1488 collected. The fundayraisers would like to thank the Lake of Menteith Fishery Board for making the boats and premises available, those who helped out on the day and the local businesses and individuals who generously donated prizes. Lastly thanks to all the anglers and friends of the Port who supported the event.

Plans for next year
Over the winter we will be kept occupied with fish rearing and pond maintenance, boat and engine maintenance, web site redesign, Canada goose cull, holidays, sourcing equipment and preperation and presentation of talks and slide shows.
Our main construction project is the building of a replacement screen at the exit from the Lake. This will allow for upstream and downstream passage of migratory fish (via an inspection box). Plans for this are still in the early stages but it is hoped to encourage a population of salmon and sea-trout in the Lake.

Our stocking objective for the fishery in 2004 will be to aim for average catch levels at 4 fish per boat for around a minimum of 8lbs. Boat bookings for next year 01877 385664.
