| This is the time
of the autumnal turnover (warmer deeper water rising and
cooler water sinking) and the 5 local pairs of ospreys,
the swallows and the martins are preparing to leave. The
water temperature is still reasonably warm (18 at 6ft)
and Secchi Disk clarity is increasing (currently 2m (6ft)).
Fishing has been concentrated in the top 2ft of water
and close to the shore. Intermediate or floating lines
have predominated and the flies have ranged from lures
(fritz, damsel, white cat) through buzzers (black and
red epoxy) to dry flies (CDC types). Busier areas have
been the road shore and the Dog Isle but good baskets
have been taken from Lochend, the Butts, Hotel Bay and
Sandy Bay. The chances of picking up a bigger on-grown
fish are greater in the less frequented areas especially
on nymphs or dries. |
