| April is turning
into a bumper month at Menteith. The previous week saw
over 1000 fish caught, a boat average catch of 5.9 fish
for over 13lbs (most boats are two men boats) and an average
fish weight of 2lbs 4oz. The seasonal 15 fish bag record
was set at 37lbs 12oz by Ronald Gilbert of Thack AC -
only to be broken days later by T.Brown and S.Doyle of
Stirling Council with a new seasonal best of 38lbs 2oz.
The best fishing is still in all the shallower drifts.
Intermediate lines with a mini lure and a nymph, wet or
buzzer, have been the most successful. Outstanding flies
have been the cat in various guises e.g., green and white,
black, orange, orange and yellow but mainly the white
variety, Damsel, Montana, Viva, Millhall Magic, Dark Olive,
Silver Butcher, Rainbow Warrior, black buzzers and various
nymphs. Many brown trout are being returned but many are
being recorded as rainbows. A few biggish pike have also
been caught. |
