| Boat average catch
for June was 3.41 fish for 7lbs 13oz. The total recorded
catch for June 3654 rainbows for 8350lbs (av. wt. 2lbs
4 oz) and 28 browns for 50lbs. This is the most fish ever
landed for June at Menteith but the catch rate was slightly
down on last June when 3.53 fish were landed per boat
hire. Perhaps a reflection on a cool, wet and windy June.
A lot of browns are being recorded as rainbows. However
the quality of the fish this year has been the best yet
and many of the beautifully conditioned established resident
rainbows are now being landed and fish mean weight is
currently nearer 2 lbs. |

| Summary of 28th to 4th July. |

| Another windy week.
The summer hotspots seem to be appearing (Inchmahome and
Arnmach Deeps) despite coolish water temperatures (16C
at 6ft). However good bags have been obtained from all
drifts the edges as well as the middle. The cats whisker
remains ever popular in combination with a blobby or something
well hackled. A fast pull has usually been most effective
but with a fair amount of colour to the water any technique
which creates a disturbance has usually worked. On calmer
waters a reasonable sized dry fly has frequently been
very effective and is likely to account for a higher proportion
of resident fish. |

M.Stephen (Glasgow) 10 fish for 22 lbs, R.Stanovitch also
of Glasgow landed 11 for 24lbs. Lochgelly SRC (6 boats)
landed 29 fish for 63lbs. 29/6/02. Carluke AC 6
boats 36 fish, Edin Saturday AC (10 boats) 56 fish for
137lbs, Crown Flyfishers Dreghorn (8 boats) 55 fish. In
the evening - SCOTTISH INTERCLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS - sponsored
by the Daily Record and Tennants. 7th HEAT: 27 boats (54 anglers) caught 121
fish for 270lbs. WINNERS were Stewerton A whose 3 anglers
(M.Stephen, R.Robb, T.Burnett) caught 18 fish for 41lbs
1oz, 2nd were Edin Trout Anglers with 12 fish for 28lbs 6oz and
3rd were Canmore with 11 fish for 25lbs 7oz. Best Individuals
were 1st J.Gargaro (ETA) with 7 fish for 17lbs
2oz using a cat and a pink and silver lure on a wet cell
2 over the deeps, 2nd R.Robb (Stewarton) 7 fish for 16lbs 5
oz, 3rd F. Robertson (Canmore) 7 fish for 16lbs 4oz, 4th M.Stephen (Stewarton) 6 fish for 12lbs 11oz. The top
club, best individual and captor of the heaviest fish
(J.Gargaro 3lb 7oz) all received a case of Tennants lager.
30/6/02. Stewarton AC (6 boats) 35 fish for 79lbs.
1/7/02. United Edin and Leith AC (8 boats) 34 fish
for 79lbs, Lochinch AC (8 boats) 21 fish for 50lbs. Police
( 6 boats) 35 fish. 3/7/02 GLENKINCHIE CLASSIC
MALTS Boat League 17 fish for 40lbs 10oz. best bag on
the night and winner of the bottle - J.Buchanan. |
