Lake of Menteith Report 27/09/16
Clarity has dropped a little but still remains good at 2.8m with water temperature falling to 14C. We have had a week with no competitions and catches have certainly increased but this may be related to the decrease in water temperature. Dries in the Butts was the best method over the last few days and today in very windy conditions the boats have been limited to the Butts, Lochend and the West side of Gateside Bay. A lot of big fish about in the bags. Ian Docherty and Ian MacLean from Milngavie weighed in a 4 fish limit for 15lbs today from Lochend - fishing with sink tip and lures. With a fair amount of wind forecast over the next few days, it is likely that the best catches will come from the sheltered areas. 866 fish stocked this week.
NATIONAL TEAM WIN
Congratulations to the National Team for their win (we are getting used to this) in the recent International in Wales, more information at www.sanacc.org.uk . We are looking forward to hosting the International next year at the Lake.
There have been reports that that there was a significant head of freshwater lice (Argulus species) at a recent competition venue. The advice from the Scottish Govt. Information Leaflet is to clean and dry your tackle so as to avoid spreading this parasite to the Lake. Following enquires I have checked with the Marine Lab and freezing your tackle (i.e. reels and lines) is also a recommended technique. They said “what is good for Gyrodactylus is also good for Argulus”.
SCOTTISH CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP
The Scottish Club Championship is being hosted at the Lake this Friday with the top 20 teams out of the 170 entrants competing for the Silver Salver. While the issue is topical, we would like to know what the preferred day for finals at the Lake is. Is it easier to get away on a Friday or a Saturday? Please give your response on our facebook page. We are looking at hosting this event a little later next year and perhaps at the weekend.
A Brand new Delta Classic 9ft #5/6 was found floating in Gateside Bay. Please contact the fishery and tell us what reel was on the rod!
We will make a decision about Thursday fishing with respect to cancelling in advance when we see the forecast tomorrow.
