Clarity and temperature has shot up at the Lake in the last week with clouds of daphnia and various copepods in evidence. Lochend, International Bay and Reedy point appear popular drifts.
SANACC Scottish Championship
In the recent Scottish Angler National Championship Heats the three top bags Derek Pozzi (19 fish, 1st), Derek Purves (17 fish, 2nd) and Keith Doig (15 fish 3rd) were all straight lining buzzers from full floaters in Tod Hole, then along the Road Shore to Reedy point. The cut off weight to qualify was 6 fish for 12lbs 4oz. In total the 57 anglers netted 410 fish and killed 156 for 317lbs.
Scottish Club Championships
The first heat of the 2016 Scottish Club Championships was held on the evening of Saturday 7th May. A cold east wind made the fishing difficult but there were still plenty of fish to be found feeding on buzzers along the eastern side of the lake and in the lee of Arnmach. Successful tactic was the washing line with buzzers and Fabs or Boobies. 13 teams of 3 anglers competed on the night with Change FFC A narrowly coming out on top with 21 fish for a weight of 40lbs 7ozs. The team comprised Kevin McCabe, Andy Dunn and Jock Kettles. 2nd were Tartan Tyers AC A with 20 fish for 40lb 4oz. 3rd were Granite City FFC A with 16 fish for 34lb 9oz. All 3 teams quakify for the semi-finals later in the year. Top rod on the night was Scott Aitken of Tartan Tyers A with 9 fish for 18lb 9oz. He qualifies for the Champion of Champions final along with Jim McKinlay of East Kilbride AC, Kevin McCabe, Greg McLaren and Andy Dunn.Heaviest fish on the night was caught by Greg McLaren.39 rods landed 131 fish for a total weight of 258lbs 6ozs, the majority of which were returned. Prizewinners were awarded prizes of beer and whisky which were sponsored by the fishery.
2016 BOAT LEAGUE RESULTS
On a wet night 33 turned up for this years 1st heat of the boat league. they caught 151 fish. We had 11 new competitors. 1st was last years winner Brian McKenzie with 13 fish he got his fish in the butts using dries, he gets a £25 voucher from Baynes tackle shop. 2nd was George White with 12 fish, he got his drifting from Tod's hole to Lochend using booby on the tail and buzzers up the cast, he gets a bottle of whisky from Andy Smith (AKA thesouthsidedecorator.com). 3rd by 6 minutes was Colin McDonald who also caught 12 fish. He chose a towel from the lake of Menteith merchandise.
