Water temperature at 6ft 8C Clarity on Secchi disc 2m. A breezy first week
with some strong north and west winds - but the lakes many sheltered drifts
meant that fishing was still possible. The best drifts have been Reedy Point
to Hotel Bay, The Butts to Lochend and Gateside Bay. Anglers have been opting
for fairly heavy lines (to get down quickly in the strong winds) and usually
lures. The bi-colour blob, white cat and dancer have been used to good effect
but recently there have been significant buzzer hatches and smaller darker
flies have been effective. On Friday 26th an outing of TroutandFly.com came
to the Lake from all Airt and Pairts for a friendly get together of the forum
participants (see group photo below right) and £745 was raised for CHAS.
Thanks to Linda Straghan(below left - on right) for organising the outing and
George the Forum Godfather and all the other generous people who contributed
to the most enjoyable day. The 30 boats caught over 100 fish with most being
returned.

On Sunday the Scottish Disabled International squad had a practice and caught and caught 16 fish with 4 boats. The best was the over wintered specimen of 5 ½ lb landed by Jim Crawford from Ayrshire (below left). Other club results; Heron FF 3 boats 18 fish for 31lbs 1rtd, Rothes Oak 5 boats 19 fish for 36lbs, Ardgowan 5 boats 13 fish for 28lbs, Dalziell AC 6 boats 24 fish for 47lbs, IBM 37 fish for 70lbs, BOS East 4 boats 13 fish 28lbs.
Below is one of the best looking pike to come out of the Lake – a 29lb 1oz (it looks bigger) giant landed by Dave Morris of the Pike Anglers Alliance Scotland. The biggest Pike of the winter (36lbs) was caught by Scott Davidson of PAAS and pictures are on their way.
