The Water temperature and clarity at Gateside has remained steady at 15.5C and 2.3m. Despite the monsoon like conditions, dry fly was still the most popular method at the weekend, with good catches being reported from varying areas (Malling-plantation, Gateside Bay, Rookery, Shear Point and International Bay). Other tactics (buzzers, nymphs and blob) and sink tip lines also produced fine catches.
Catch Data
So far this season we have stocked 20500 rainbow trout of 2 to 2.5lbs and 1000 brown trout of 1-1.5lbs mean weight. Apart from a very hot spell in late June, catches have held up very well over the summer period (as they did last summer) and this is the best catch rate for July that I can recall in the last 10 years.
