Daily Record Champion of Champions 2009

Gregor Fleming from Glasgow is the new Daily Record Champion of Champions. Gregor topped the field of over 600 entrants to collect the trophy, £300 prize money and (courtesy of Competiton Sponsors The Angling Centre Stirling)  a Greys Platinum Competition Rod worth £200. It was close though, and last years Champion John Buchanan was unlucky not to become the first ever Champion to successfully defend his title. At the end of the day Gregor and John both netted 10 fish, but Gregors first three for the scales weighed 8.6oz heavier at 7lbs 11.6oz. In third place was Kevin McCabe with 9 fish for 18lbs 10oz. Gregor of St.Winnoch AC dropped a couple of fish and had most success at Sam’s point on a midge tip line with an olive nymph on the top, a diawl bach in the middle and a cormorant on the point. John was using booby variants on the road shore. In all the competitors landed over 1900 fish for 4040lbs and raised over £2500 for Glasgow’s Sick Kids (much of this was in returned winner’s cheques). The Daily Record was pleased to announce continued sponsorship for 2010.

Steven McVean (pictured on left) from the Port of Menteith is this years club champion, picking up the Tam Denham Chase, with a catch of 14 fish over the whole season. Sam Newns from Falkirk won the Cormorant Sheild on Thursday 15th October with a great catch of 7 fish. Pictured in centre is Youth Coach Alasdair Mair.

Menteith Autumn Pairs Champions for the second year in a row are Peter Batchelor and Donald Forbes.
