Lake of Menteith Report 1st September

The Water temperature and clarity at Gateside is 14.5 and 2.6m. The trend to use dry flies has diminished with the reduced numbers of heather fly (bibio). Areas producing fish have been Gateside Bay, Road shore, Rookery and Dog Island. Best tactics have been boobies and lures on sink tips.

Ladies National Results

The new National Ladies Champion is Elaine McCracken who won the second leg of the Ladies National Heats at the Lake on Sunday. The 10 boats caught 55 trout for 108lbs. Top rod and Menteith local Elaine McCracken is pictured below left, being presented with the National Trophy by Bunty Webster from Dundee. Elaine caught 11 fish for 22lbs 1oz and was fishing with a booby and a new fly which does not as yet have a name. In second place was Nikki Ross with 7 fish for 15lbs 2oz and 3rd was Abigail Montgomery with 6 fish for 11lbs 14oz.

 

Overall or Aggregate Ladies Top Rod was Nikki Ross. 2nd placed was Jane Wright. The combined results of the Menteith and Carron Heats are used to select the national ladies team.  

 

 

 

Club Results:

Aberdour AA 16 boats 31 trout for 66lbs, Lothian and Borders Police 15 boats 92 fish for 188lbs plus 16 returned, L&B versus Fife 76 fish for 161lbs. Glasgow and District Interclubs 12 boats 109 fish for 217lbs; Pictured left - Jim Ferguson of winners Rowbank collects the trophy.
