6ft Water Temp: 15C, Clarity (secchi disk): 3.1m  - Continued settled weather is warming the water and maintaining good clarity. Many areas are fishing well (Sams Point, Shear Point, Lochend, Dog Isle and West Gateside), and “small stuff” type fly tyings seem popular. The buzzer was the top technique in Saturday night’s Scottish club Championship Heat.


Who are these sons? Give up? Below left; Jamie Fraser son of Fishery Bailiff Douglas, and below right Nicky Bachelor son of angler Peter Bachelor. Both boys fish in Alasdair Mair’s Cormorants Youth AC and, by all accounts, had a good night last Tuesday.


2nd Evening Heat; Scottish Club Championships – sponsored by the Daily Record with additional prizes from the Angling Centre Stirling. 
24 boats landed 72 fish for 172lbs 8oz.  Top 3 man team were Monifeith Trout (C.Elder, W.Meldrew, G.Edwards; 9 fish for 24lbs 2oz), 2nd Bank of Scotland Glasgow (7 fish for 19lbs 12oz) and 3rd Grizzles (8 fish  for 16lbs 11oz). Top four individuals qualifying for the Champion of Champions were W.Meldrew of Monifeith 5 fish limit for 13lbs 11oz, Michael Ward (Johnston FF – 5 fish 11lb14oz), J.Watson (Grizzles – 5 fish) and Archie McGilp (Lochgilphead and Dist - 4 fish). Heaviest fish 4lbs 13oz W.Meldrew. Top tactics: Green Diawl Bach and buzzers, floating line, at Sam’s Point.   

Scottish Anglers National Championship Menteith Heats: Heat 3, 8th May: 58 anglers caught 141 fish for 263lbs plus 24 returned. The cut off weight for qualification was 7lb 12oz., and the top 3 bags were; S.Bett (10 fish), G.Fleming 8 fish and Alan Smith 8 fish.

Lothian and Borders Police (10 boats) 46 fish 93lbs, Tayside Police (3 ½ boats) 14 fish plus 4 returned, Scotsman AC (4 boats) 17 fish 40lbs 1rtd, Fife Police (5 boats) 22 fish for 53lbs plus 4 rtd, Edinburgh Walton 8 boats 28 fish for 60lbs, HM Revenue and Customs (14 boats) 35 fish for 78lbs, LBPAC  versus Edinburgh Mechanicals AC (8 eve boats) 20 fish for 38lbs. Kelvinside A.A.C (5 boats) 30 fish for 78 lbs plus 22 returned, Pencaitland AC (10 boats) 9 fish for 23lbs.
