6ft Water Temp: 17C, Clarity (secchi disk): 2.0m - A big warming
of the water in the last few days and a drop in clarity. The Lake is
currently fishing well with many big fish of around 6lbs in the bags.
Tam ward of Cumnock had 6 fish over the 6lb mark in his two outings last
week. Alan Brock of Crieff took 5 fish for 28lbs 4oz and returned a further
5 in Wednesday Night’s Boat League. Steve Docherty of Fort William
had 34 fish in one session with 31 returned. The fish are not necessarily
deep and have been taken on sinker and floater, with blobs, diawl bachs
and buzzers taking the majority of the fish. Hot spots of recent are
Hotel Bay and behind Dog Isle but most of the drifts with perhaps the
exception of the Butts have fish.
5th Evening Heat; Scottish Club Championships Results – sponsored
by the Daily Record with additional prizes from the Angling Centre
Stirling.
21 boats landed 58 fish for 118lbs. Top 3 man team were Rowbank
(P.ONeill, G.Fleming, T.Burnett) AC with 13 fish for 28lbs, 2nd Kinross
Ex Servicemen with 9 fish 15lbs 5oz and 3rd were IC1 Dumfries with 6
fish for 13lbs 11oz. Top four individuals qualifying for the Champion
of Champions were Paul O’Neill, Rowbank, 5 fish; G.Connelly , Kahts
whisker, 5 fish; G.fleming, Rowbank, 5 fish and E.Barnes, Kinross Ex-Service,
4 fish. Top tactics were diawl bachs and damsels behind Dawg Isle. The
Angling Centre Stirling has a mobile shop on site before the start of
the Scottish club Competition and further items can be brought to the
venue by prior order.
Eliminators for 2009 World Fly Fishing Championships
The qualifying rounds for the 2009 WFFC took place last week on the:
Lake, Carron Res, Loch Awe, Tummel and Tay. At the Lake over the two
sessions James Litster was 1st, Willie Leach 2nd and David Chalmers 3rd.
The Malling and road shore were fishing well and most fish were caught
on buzzers. Overall qualifiers over all the venues were; Calum Crosbie,
Simon Cocker, James Litster, Donald Forbes, David Chalmers and William
Leach.
On the Evening of 2nd June the first SANA Open Heat
took place and 14 boats landed 83 fish for 191lbs. Of the singles, 1st,2nd
and 3rd were Ernie MacKay, Martin smith and Ronald Gilbert. In the Pairs,
Martin smith and Kevin McCabe were 1st with 10 for 24lbs 15oz, James
Gardner and D.Bonnington were 2nd and and C.Morgan and D.Forbes were
3rd.
In
the third evening of the Menteith Boat League sponsored
by Angling Centre Stirling, Alan Brock won the night with a superb (capped
at 4lbs) catch of 5 fish for 28lbs 4oz, 2nd was John Kaye and 3rd Andy
Boylan. The 39 anglers weighed in 134 fish for 313lbs (capped)
189lbs and returned 30 fish. Alan caught his fish on a blob at reedy
point and was “going down a bit”. After 3 evenings the League
Leader is Andy Dunn with 23pts, followed by I.Campbell, P.Auchterlonie
and Ken Oliver all on 29pts.
