21st August Weekly Report
6ft Water Temp: 19C Secchi Disk Gateside: 2.4m Areas fishing this week have been the Rookery, Reedy Point, Gateside, Stable Point, Dog Isle, International Bay and the Road shore. Average weight of the fish was a hefty 2lbs 8oz. The terrestrial bibio flies (aka Bibio pomonae, the heather fly; pictured right) have been hatching in a big way this week and a change to a north wind resulted in showers of the wee “Bibionidae” coming down on to the Lake on Monday 20th, also apparent were other larger species of Bibio. Best tactics: floater, sink tip or intermediate line with a bibios, snatchers, cormorants, hoppers or a lure.
Brian Adam (left) holds the SANA Open Singles Trophy. Brian caught 6 fish for 16lbs 14oz (and returned two after he had reached the six fish limit) fishing at Gateside with a midge tip and fast intermediate line. His flies were a snatcher, bibio, cats and a uv cormorant. 2nd was Douglis Inglis and 3rd Ernie MacKay. In the Open Doubles, the new top pair from Aberdeen and District AA were Ernie MacKay (below on left) and Kenny Riddell (on right) with 12 fish for 32lbss 13oz. Ernie was on the Road Shore with hoppers and a midge tip line and Kenny was fishing in Gateside with a floating line and a snatcher and a hopper. 2nd in the pairs - Morgan and Forbes and 3rd Watson and Inglis. The 19 boats caught 137 fish for 340lbs.
