Menteith Report

18th April

6ft Water Temp: 10C Secchi Disk Gateside: 2.9m

Some fine catches early on in the week becoming harder during the week in the bright and windier westerly conditions the hot spots remain Lochend, Todhole/Butts, Road Shore drifts – with the new addition of Gateside Bay. The fishery was saddened to hear of the death last week of regular Rex Hutchison (pictured right) from Kilsyth area. Also today I have heard that another angler, Alec McNee from Helensburgh also passed away in October 2006. Alec’s humour (he once landed a child’s white plimsole) and Rex’s comments on current affairs will be greatly missed.

The first competition of the year, The Troutmaster’s Qualifyer took place on 17/4/07. The winner was Tam Wilson from Ayrshire with 4 fish for 9lbs 15oz, 2nd was Gregor Fleming with 4 for 8lbs 13oz and 3rd Murray Hunter with 4 fish for 8lbs 11oz. Tam was fishing in Lochend and Gateside with a floating line and the fly was a small green pea.

Club catches:
Balbeggie AC (8 boats) 33 fish for 78lbs, Rainbow AC 8 boats 30 fish for 70lbs, Falkirk FC 6 boats 26 fish 60lbs. Milngavie AC 4 boats 16 fish for 36lbs.

Missing rods
On Thursday, 5th April, the day prior to going on holiday, a black rod tube containing 2 Aquarius 11ft 7/8 three piece rods went missing at Lake of Menteith. Both rods are inscribed Kenneth Mac Leod Miller and dated. They are of sentimental value as they were family presents. On the outside of the rod tube is a rod bag containing 2 handle sections to form the handle of a net. Any information as to the present whereabouts of these rods would be appreciated. A reward of £100.00 is offered for their safe return to Kenny Miller (Secretary Scottish Clubs Comp.)
