Hotspots over the weekend were the Heronry, Kates Brae/Lovhend and Malling shore. On Monday and Friday the Butts fished well. Depending on conditions various methods have produced top bags; Booby on the point of a sink tip line, buzzers and also a fast glass with lures.

On Sunday 13th Jim Crawford (left) from Ayr became the new Scottish Disabled National Champion. Jim landed 11 fish
From the Heronry and Lochend using a fast glass line a blob, cat double and a black diawl bach. Stuart Fraser was second with 11 fish and last years Champ john Bryce was 3rd, also with 11 fish. The 15 boats had (what some were saying) was a record catch in the Disabled National of 82 fish for 195lbs for the 15 boats. Jim also got the trophy for the heaviest fish (4lbs 4oz). Best Boatman was Willie Hutchison from Greenock. Fraser Renwick thanked the Staff and Fisheries Management committee for their help over the years and also the boatmen and caterers. And Finally CCTV pictures captured this errant fly fisher - a suspect in our on-going “mess left in the boat” inquiries.

April Monthly Summary
Anglers have enjoyed a good start to the season. Catches are up on last April. This year 2 man boat average catches for an 8hr session were 5.4 fish for 12.6lbs, 18% of the fish were recorded as returned. Last year the figures were 4.7 fish for 9.9lbs with 10% returned.
Has the main reason for this been the warmth of the spring with fish and angler alike putting in more effort? Water temperatures ran at almost double our cold spring of 2006.
