Menteith Report

12th June

6ft Water Temp: 18C Secchi Disk Gateside: 2.5m

Water temperature rose 5C in two days and reached 19C on the 11th. The fish are not going deep yet and some of the shallow areas (Lochend, Kates Brae) are still doing well. However, when it gets warm the fish seem to go upwind – perhaps to away from the warmer water which is blown downwind. Other areas doing well have been the Heronry, Gateside Bay, International Bay and the Rookery. A quieter week at the fishery, finishing with some moderate easterlies.

Results:
6th Evening Heat; Scottish Club Championships Results – sponsored by the Daily Record with additional prizes from the Angling Centre Stirling.
27 boats landed 117 fish for 215lbs. Top 3 man team were Change Flyfishers (Pictured left Jock Kettles, Martin smith and Kevin McCabe) with 14 fish, 2nd Horrywood and 3rd Pitlochry AC. These teams go forward to the semi-final on 21/9/07. Top four individuals qualifying for the Champion of Champions were G.Ingles (Horrywood), Martin Smith (Change), Calum Crosbie (Grizzle Cats.) and Peter Temple (Horrywood). Top tactics – buzzers, floating line, Heronry. Heaviest Fish 6lbs 4oz, Airdrie.

In the 4th heat of the Menteith Boat League sponsored by Angling Centre Stirling, Jim Watson was the top rod with 5 fish for 10lbs 8oz, 2nd was G.Hayward with 5 for 10lbs 5oz and 3rd Charlie Walls with 4 fish. Heaviest fish went to G.Hayward (5lbs8oz). Ken Oliver took the Duck. Current League Positions are P.Auchterlonie on 22pts, J.Watson 30pts and G.Hayward 32pts. The 29 anglers landed 55 fish for 110lbs.

Scottish Anglers National Association Open Championships
In the first heat of the singles and pairs evening heats 35 anglers landed 99 fish for 207lbs. In the singles Wilson Storrar (pictured right) finished top with 4 fish for 17lbs 7oz. 2nd was Brian Adam with 6 fish and Jock Kettles was 3rd with 6 fish. Top 3 pairs were Brian Adam and Wilson Storrar, Mike Cordiner and Richard McHattie and Angus Shepard and Derek Keenan. Brian Adam was fishing a fast/intermediate line with a sparkler booby, diawl bach and cruncher in Kates Brae. Wilson was at Gateside Bay with a Di3. The competition was fished to fishery rules and the qualifying teams will be decided following the 2nd heat on the 25th June.
