2007 Scottish National Trout Fly Fishing Champion:
Alec McEwan. Alec
from Ochiltree in Ayrshire, as representative Champion of his club Rainbow
Warriors, caught 14 fish for 30lbs 10oz. In second place was Andy MacKay
with 13 fish for 28lbs 4½ oz. Third was Hamish Simpson of Canmore
AC (Fife) with 11 fish for 23lbs 14oz. In the 115th year of the competition,
but only the second time the event has been held on the Lake, 328 fish
were caught (116 returned) and the average weight of the retained fish
was 2lbs 8oz.
This event is also the qualifier for the Scottish National
Fly Fishing Team and those selected (places 1-18) were A.McEwan, A.McKay,
H.Simpson, J.Gardiner, S.Nicol, J.Watt, A.MacGillivary, D.Keenan, D.MacGilp,
D.Pozzi, B.Robertson, W.Leach, R.Robb, L.Taylor, I.Guthrie, S.Welsh, D.Bonnington
and A.Dunn.
Polis Win International
The other big event at the Lake this week was the Police International
Fly Fishing Championship. The Scottish Police were easy winners with 61
fish for 145lbs 11oz. England were second with 45 fish for 108lbs 15oz,
Northern Ireland were 3rd with 43 fish and Wales collected the wooden
spoon with 30 fish.
