Menteith Report

9th April

6ft Water Temp: 8.5C Secchi Disk Gateside: 2.5m

Some fine catches (average wt 2 ½ lbs) this week in calmer conditions. In the recent bright and windier conditions the hot spots have been the sheltered Lochend, Todhole and Butts drifts. An intermediate line and flies such as white cat orange blob and viva have been accounting for the catches. On Saturday in calmer weather the 30 boats landed 260 fish with 203 weighed in for 507lbs. “Out in the middle” of the eastern basin fished well and there were also reports of fine catches on the western shores. Smaller flies and buzzers were used to good effect.

Notable club catches were Strathclyde Police 10 boats 55 fish for 115lbs and 27 returned, Tosh Storrar 12 for 29lbs, Dalziel Steel 7 boats 57 fish for 142lbs, Heriots 7 boats 36 fish for 89lbs and 15 returned, Change 4 boats 42 fish 106lbs 21 returned, Paul and Irene Clarke 12 fish for 26lbs, Townhill 8 boats 46 fish for 109lbs, Stanley 8 boats 54 fish for 129lbs and SANA ladies 9 boats 33 fish for 78lbs.

Some nice over-wintered fish in the baskets including these two. On the left Adam King from Caldercruiks with a 6lb 3oz fish and on the right A.N. Other with a grilsey one.
