Fishery Report Menteith Weekly Report 30th October

With only one more day of the official season to go, there are still fine catches to be had – but there are fewer fresh stockies about! Best areas have tended to be the reed beds where the resident fish are hunting the fry. Reedy Point, Dog Isle and the Heronry have fished well. A lot of fish were also recently seen around the southern tip of Inch Talla.

This Sunday was Chairman’s Day at the Lake and on this occasion the Lake endeavours to invite those who have put a lot of effort into supporting angling over the year. The biggest fish of the day won a free Opening Day Boat for 2007 (24th March) at the Lake, and this was awarded to Kevin McCabe (right) for his efforts in boating this 9lb 30z beauty on a size 12 black and green diawl bach in Gateside Bay.

There was the occasional blank boat (left) but the mild and bright conditions were enjoyed by all. Afterwards at an excellent meal in the Forth Inn, Aberfoyle, the Chairman of the Fisheries Board John Ingleby of Malling Farm thanked the anglers for their business and their help in setting up the youth angling club and with the running of the competitions. The staff were also thanked, and some of the various issues concerning the fishery were discussed.

Another fine resident (8lbs 12oz) was boated by Jim Twaddle (below) on the final Saturday of the season. Please watch the web pages for further information and reports over the close season.
