DAILY RECORD CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS
Internationalist angler Robert Baldie of Bonhill Alexandria is the new
Daily Record Champion of Champions. He wins £300 and a Sierra HN3
rod. Sunday 22nd saw difficult conditions at the Lake. Cold overnight
temperatures, bright sunshine and a flat calm; with fish lying in the
shallows - made for a surprisingly hard days angling. The Lake has received
a heavier than usual stocking in the last few weeks
so it was a bit of a surprise to find that the 49 anglers only managed
to catch 77 fish for 183lbs. Robert (left) caught 4 fish for 12lbs 1oz,
including the one shown (a personal best) which weighed 8lbs 5oz but was
capped at 4lbs. Robert was fishing at the Rookery/Sams Point with a Straggle
Cat double but also had one on a Bibio hopper. In 2nd place was the unlucky
John Davies of Lochinch with 6 fish for 11lbs 9oz (wins £200 and
a Sierra Reel). John was fishing Dog Isle with a diawl bach (2 fish),
Cormorant (1), Sparkler (1), Candy (1). 3rd Place went to Ronnie Christie
of the Soldier Palmers who had 5 fish for 10lbs and wins £100 and
a fly line. 4th Place was Stirling Council River Bailiff David Adams and
Alan Hill was 5th. Both landed 4 fish. Thanks to the Daily Record for
their magnificent sponsorship of this event and also the Angling Centre
Stirling for additional prizes.
Two Magnificent 13 pounders were landed this week.
Eileen
Gallacher (left) from Linwood caught her personal best trout with a floating
line and a size 14 black nymph. The beautiful on grown specimen is also
the biggest ever trout caught by a lady at the Lake.

Tam Ward of the Lame Ducks strikes again with his 5th large specimen
this season – another on grown bar of silver. Tam, a wizard with
the fly tying vice, caught it behind Dog Isle on a size 12 Diawl Bach
using the new UV micro straggle fritz. Quite a few other fine specimens
this week but no space to show them!
