CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS 2006
Kenny Woods, Dave Bonnington and Walter Archibald of Edinburgh Trout Anglers. Club Championship Results Dave Bonnington 36 of Loanhead said that the dull overhead conditions suited the trooties tactics which were to stay high up in the water with imitative patterns (predominantly slender cormorants and white cats). Dave caught most of his 8 fish in the top 18” whilst fishing in the rookery. Kenny Wood 50, of Longniddry had his 9 fish on a fast glass fishing off the Rookery and Reedy Point. Walter Archibald of Ormiston 52, had his 8 fish on a sink tip – and landed two in the last five minutes. Hardlines to the Soldier Palmers (Ronnie Christie, Jock Ryan and James Gardiner – now firmly established as one of the best fly fishing teams in the UK. Third placed were Rothes Oak AC. Top rod on the day was Peter Auchterlonie with 10 fish for 22lbs 9oz, 2nd equal were Jock Ryan and Bill Barnes with 11 fish and Championship secretary Kenny Miller was 3rd with 10 fish for 21lbs 10oz. A fit and fantastic on grown rainbow of 10lbs 13oz caught by Alan Lawson
(above) from Finzean Aberdeenshire, who writes….
Fishing has been mainly in the top couple of feet of water with a lot of catches tending to be close into the reeds where the Lake fry find sanctuary. Top areas have been the Shore Road to Lochend and up to the Butts, Heronry and cages and the Rookery.
