Menteith Weekly Report 16th May
6ft Water Temp: 14C Secchi Disk Gateside:1.5m

A week with predominant south easterlies has meant a lot of the hatching insects have ended up in the North West corner with the fish and anglers in hot pursuit and achieving some great catches with fish averaging 3lbs in some recent limit bags. Areas performing well have been the Heronry, Malling Shore, Gateside Bay and Rookery. A lot of action has also taken place else where with excellent fishing on the road shore and in Hotel Bay. Recently anglers have been taking fish close into the shore (10ft) on intermediate or floating lines with buzzers or lures (cat/appetiser/cormorant).

The big event this week was the launching of the Mark II wheely boat by Anne McGuire MP for Stirling and UK Minister for the Disabled. The new boat and engine was financed with the help of Lloyds TSB Foundation for Scotland, Robertson Trust, Lake of Menteith Fisheries Board and the Scotbelge Charitable Trust. Thanks were also made to the Wheelyboat Trust for co-ordinating the project. Anne McGuire commented that the boat was an excellent facility to enable the disabled to explore the great outdoors. Following the launch the National Fly fishing Competition for Anglers with a Disability was held. The winner with 7 fish was
John Bryce (pictured above right). Also qualifying for the National Disabled Team were A.Nelson, T.Lithgow, J.Daily, T.Ward, R.Mitchel and C.Lawrie.
