Menteith Rainbow Record Broken Again

 

 

Regular Menteith Angler Ian Colligan of Dalzell Steel Angling Club took this 16lb 13oz rainbow from the cages on the night of Friday 11th August. Ian caught his big resident on a cormorant fly with a sink tip line. His fish beats the previous record by 2lbs set in May.

Another week of superlative fishing at the Lake with cooler temperatures allowing top of the water fishing. Best areas are still Gateside Bay, Inchmahome Deeps, Dog Isle and the Rookery. For the first time in a month fish were caught on the Road shore and Shear Point Drifts but a couple of warm days moved the fish out of these areas. At the start of the week clarity was low which led to high visibility flies like the cormorant being used but clarity has increased steadily all week so buzzers, diawl bachs and even dries if cloud cover permits - will be worth a throw. The fishery have been releasing a lot of 5-8 pounders (maximum stocking size at Menteith) over the past month and many of these are now starting to show in the catch returns.

The 29 anglers landed 105fish for 216lbs. Top bag on the night was Dougie Ingles with 7 for 15lbs 15oz. James Litster was 2nd with 7 fish and two returned. 3rd was G.Hayward with 7. The biggest fish (7lbs 12oz) was landed by Chic Brown. Best tactics – washing line and fast glass.
