Menteith Weekly Report 11th July

New Menteith Brown-Trout Record
David Mateer of the Northern Constabulary landed this
spectacular brown trout on Saturday 8th During the Scottish Club Championships.
The fish smashed the previous lake record brown (7lbs 13oz) and weighed
in at 10lbs 15oz. David hooked the fish in Gateside Bay and the fish took
a sunburst blob on a Di3 line. The fish is all the more memorable as our
stocking size for brown trout is around 1 ¼ lbs.
Best areas in the last while remain Malling or Roman shore, Dog Isle and
Gateside. Out in the middle of both basins has also been productive. The
fish therefore were still to be found over the deeper water but not lying
deep. The excellent clarity has helped to maintain catches with fish able
to lie deep but come up to feed. Last week the thermoclyne was deep, with
no decrease in temperature down to 30ft. The pinhead fry are in abundance
this week and the marginally cooler temperatures have certainly increased
fish appetite.
10th Evening Heat; Scottish Club Championships Results

The 25 boats landed 72 fish for 157lbs. Top team were West Coast Fly
(R.Baldi, George Martin, S.McCabe) with 10 fish for 19lbs 12. 2nd Househill
Muir Fly with 8 fish for 17lbs 8oz and 3rd ABC&D with 7 fish for 16lbs
8oz. These teams go forward to the semi-finals. Top four individuals qualifying
for the Champion of Champions were R.Baldi 5 fish for 10lbs 3oz, D.Downie
4 fish, Ian Coutts 4 fish and George Martin 4 fish. Top tactics boobies/snatchers,
DI3/midge tip, Dog Isle/Gatteside. Biggest Fish D.Mateer.
ACS Menteith Boat League – sponsored by the Angling
Centre Stirling.
Top rod on the night was J.Litster with 4 fish. James is the new league
leader. In 2nd position is Andy MacKay and D.Paterson lies in 3rd.
Sana Semi-Final 4th July: 13 boats landed 86 fish
for 170lbs 14oz. Top Rod was P.sharp of Glen. Cut off for qualification
was 8lbs 6oz.
