Buoys away at Gateside Bay
The trout holding pens were emptied this week, and pushed ashore allowing
anglers full access to Gateside Bay for the first time this season. One
of the first boats in held Tam Denholm (pictured left) with the resulting
12 pounder and Alastair Mair who boated a 6lb beauty (below right)

Sink tip lines with cats and cormorants have predominated – with
fish again coming from all the drifts. After 50 years of fishing the Lake,
regular Hugh Lusk caught his personal best trout (10lbs) this week (below
right). Another week of bumper catches at the Lake.
August Catch Statistics
September was another warmer than usual month with no ground frosts and
the water temperature of the Lake finished at 16C - the highest on record
(records began 1998). The catch statistics for August were a healthy average
of 4.63 fish caught per boat weighing 9lbs 13oz (for 8hrs fishing). The
most productive areas in September were Roman Bay and the Road shore/Lochend
drifts, with plenty of big fish in the 7-9lb range reported in catches.
