6ft Water Temp: 5.5C Secchi Disk Gateside:2m

A cold week with water temp way behind last year’s 11C for the same date. Some good fishing reported – and some big hatches of big and small buzzers observed despite the chilly water. Catches are undoubtedly slower than last year – but the Lake can heat up quickly! Ospreys and house martins are now in residence.

This spring is the best I’ve seen for big over wintered fish at the Lake. For instance these three fine looking fish (all from the west basin) were lucky enough to have their photos excellently taken (but I have heard and seen many more).

Pictured above is retired Central Scotland Policeman Malcolm Millar of Clackmannan who landed this beauty of 6lbs 13oz. Malcolm caught 7 fish for 18lbs (photo Stewart Marshall of Cambusbarron).

John Michie (right) caught this huge tailed 6lb brownie in Gateside Bay on a size 10 yellow dancer fished very close to the surface.

On the basis that a picture is as good as a thousand words - this fine looking specimen, caught by Russell Boyd (below - photo Ken Bell) also deserves inclusion.

Tactics have varied in the past week from floating to DI3 with lures or buzzers but with a slow retrieve. Areas have included the shallow markers, dog isle, Inchmahome South shore, Hotel Bay, Road shore, Lochend and the Butts.

Club results: CIBA 48 fish for 96lbs, IBM (12 boats) 71fish 120lbs, Grizzle Cats 20 fish for 48lbs – 8 returned. Club secretaries please give a total for the club along side number of boats hired. Thanks.
