Weekly Report
Issued 23rd May 2005

Water temperature is still increasing and is now 15C at 6ft. Clarity has dropped (we have had spate conditions) and is now 2.3m on the secchi disk. The water was last stocked on the 20th May (1094 rainbows – including some really fine looking bigger specimens). Hot spots of recent are Hotel Bay, Reedy Point, Stable Point, Dog Isle and the Malling Shore. Buzzers (green) are still the order of the day although there are plenty of fish fry bashing and feeding on the big lake olives and mayflies.

Scottish Police Championship. The 36 competitors boats landed 197 fish for 357lbs. The new Scottish Police Champion is Jimmy McBride of Lothian and Borders (and now Craftye) – pictured (on right) receiving the trophy from Championship organiser Jim Walker. Jimmy caught his fish (7 fish limit for 17lbs 10oz (not incl. 4lb time bonus) in the Stable point and Dog Isle areas. His tactic was to deploy a green holographic diawl bach and a small (#12) red-olive damsel on a midge tip line (1m sinking tip) with a booby on the point (to keep the flies up). No fish were taken on the booby. 2nd was K.Anderson (L&B) with a total of 20lbs 14 and 3rd was S.Bett (Fife) with 18lbs 15oz.
The winning 4 man team was Lothian and borders with 26 fish for 53lbs (65lbs with time bonus). Strathclyde were 2nd with 23 fish (47lbs 10oz). Thanks to G.Niven for the Photo.
