| Weekly report
issued 18th July 2005
A scorching hot week saw the Lake water temperature rise
to 23C at 6ft on Monday 11th, and the fish stayed deep. As temperatures
declined slightly to 20 or 21C at 6ft fish were again caught and this
was helped by an increase in clarity (secchi disk reading 3m on the 11th).
Was it too hot for algae as well? Clarity has since declined a little
and is now 2.2m on the secchi disk with a water temperature of 20C at
6ft on the 18th. The steady westerlies have been pushing the warmer water
into the eastern basin and this area has not really fished of recent.
Most productive boats have been fishing a floating line or slow intermediate
on the Malling shore but the west end of Gateside Bay has also been producing
fish. Flies have been the booby, cormorant, wickams and cat.
Scottish Club Championships Results: The eleventh
heat of the Scottish club championships sponsored by the Daily Record
and Bowmore with additional prizes from the Angling Centre Stirling, saw
30 boats land 95 trout for 198lbs 11oz. Qualifying teams: 1st Leslie Llanilar
16 fish for 32lbs , 2nd Eaglesham Flyfishers and 3rd were Arbroath AC.
Individuals through to the Champion of Champions are 1st P.Cushnie with
8 for 16lbs. Paul was fishing with booby and cormorants, near the surface
at the Malling shore, 2nd S.MacGregor (Arbroath), 3rd G.Dunbar (Port Ellon)
and 4th J.Simpson Ardrossan/Eglinton. Gordon Dunbar came all the way from
Islay to land the biggest fish and win a bottle of malt.
Glenkinchie Boat League 9th Night - 13th July
A first place with 5 fish for 10.15lbs moved Kenny McGuckin into 8th place
in the league and won him a bottle of Glenkinchie. 2nd on the night was
4th placed David Paterson with 4 fish and 3rd was W.Leach – also
with 4 fish. League leader James Litster had 3 fish and came in 4th. With
9 heats now fished, the top 8 placings only are counted to decide overall
position. It seems incongruous that the worse you fished on the discounted
evening the more points are removed from your league tally. It is all
about the top 8 bags – and the other nights are for fun!
