WIN AGAIN.

In their 99th International Fly Fishing competition,
Scotland followed up their spring victory on Grafam with a win on their
home water at the Lake of Menteith. The results were as follows:
1st Scotland 72 fish 150lbs 4 ½ oz.
2nd England 74 fish 145lbs 9 ½ oz
3rd Ireland 63 fish for 129lbs 10oz
4th Wales 48 fish for 100lbs 11½ oz
The
14 person teams, representing the best of each country, fished from 10am
to 6pm on Friday 9th and landed a total of 257 fish for 526lbs (rod average
4.6 fish for 9lbs 6oz). Top rod was England’s Simon Robinson with
12 fish for 23lbs 7½ oz. 2nd top rod was Derek Barclay of Scotland.
3&4th went to James Litster and John Dunbar also of Scotland. The
hot spots were varied, but Reedy Point, Stable Point, Hotel Bay and the
Roadshore were popular. The orange blob and cormorant were deployed on
a ghost tip line in the cool, windy and reduced water clarity conditions
(2.5m on the secchi disk and 17C at 6ft). Above - Dugald MacGilp of Ardrishaig
and Scotland, comes ashore in the bow of no. 3.
It was another narrow victory for the Scots who were fishing for their
country on the waters of Menteith for the 6th time. They have now consolidated
their earlier win in England and their current number 1 status.
