A NEW DAILY RECORD CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS – and £2000 FOR CHARITY

Fishing enthusiast and policeman from Troon, Alan Hill walked away with 2005 Daily Record Champion of Champions Trophy at the Lake on Friday 7th October. Alan caught an amazing 13 fish in 7½ hours for a catch weight of 26lbs 2oz. Alan had a disappointing day at the club championships and this was his response. His nearest rival and hot favourite for the Champ Title was fellow Ayrshire Grizzlecat club member Jim Crawford with 9 fish for 21lbs 1oz. 3rd was Ian Jones of Craufordland Fishery with 9 fish for 17lbs 5oz. Alan received £300, the trophy, a bottle of GLEN GARIOCH and from the STIRLING ANGLING CENTRE – an electric outboard. Andy MacKay of the Glasgow Angling Centre received the trophy for the heaviest fish in the competition at 7lbs 12oz.

Alan was fishing in fairly windy conditions off Shear Point and International Bay with a floating line and with a virtually static retrieve. Flies were a highly successful Cormorant boobie on the tail with three cormorants further up. The 58 anglers in the competition caught 254 fish of which 44 were returned (rod average 4.4 fish for 9lbs 12oz).

Championship Secretary Kenny Millar thanked the Daily Record for the meal, drinks, fishing journalistic and overall support and the Angling Centre Stirling and Bowmore Whisky for their prizes. Kenny then announced that anglers in this competition had raised over £2000 in aid of the Scott MacIvor Appeal Fund which purchases life saving equipment for Glasgow Yorkhill Sick Children’s Hospital.

The Lake is currently fishing well- notably in the eastern basin - with a high proportion of limit bags today (10/10/05). A further 1200 trout are still to go in this season and fishing restrictions on Gateside Bay (that well known resident haunt) being lifted as from Thursday the 14th October. There is plenty of action still to be had. There are a few boats available for our Kirk and School Fundraiser Fishing and Barbeque on the 6th November.
