Towards the end of the week the increasing wind strength made things difficult and fishing was more or less confined to the Butts and lures. Also latterly in the week was a big daphnia (water flea) population explosion – this meant an abundance of natural feed. Earlier in the week, when calmer conditions prevailed, will be remembered for; the surface action, buzzer and dry fly sport, and the number of fine over-wintered fish in the catches.

Joe Heenan of Denny landed this 5 pounder from the Butts using a cats whisker and Jim Knox (above right) had a brace for 11½lbs, one of which was overwintered.

On the club scene CIBA AC of Paisley (7 boats) 31 fish for 84lbs, IBM (11 boats) 69 fish 133lbs, ICI – Dumfries (6 boats) 20 fish 48lbs.
