3rd June to 9th June 2003
Current water temperature has eased back to 17C at a depth of 6ft, secchi
disk clarity is good at 3m. Successful tactics this week have been varied
(booby on a fast sinker up to dries on the top). Good drifts have been
Dog Isle, Gateside, Rookery, Reedy Point and the road shore.
Club Results and other Notable Catches
Individuals doing well were: Craig Cowan with 10 fish. S.Docherty (Fort
William) had his 7 fish limit on both visits. Campbell/Murphy of Inverclyde
12 fish for 23lbs, Tam Bonnar 15 fish for 34lbs, Cullen/Kelly of Hawick
15 fish for 28lbs and G.Scott (Hawick) 15 fish for 30lbs, P. Aucterlonie
11 fish for 22lbs, Pozzi/Semple (Glenrothes) 14 fish for 27lbs.
Club results; Edinburgh Waltons (8 boats) 38 fish for 70lbs, Thack (Kilmarnock)
6 boats 48 fish for 102lbs, Farmers and Assoc (8 boats) 15 fish for 30lbs,
Glasgow Post Office (6 boats) 22 fish for 38lbs, Badenoch (6boats) 16
fish for 35lbs, Penicuik AC (6 boats) 20 fish for 39lbs, ABC&D (6
boats) 26 fish for 54lbs, Sana Ladies (4 boats) 10 fish for 20lbs.
The third night of the Glenkinchie Boat League took
place on the Wednesday 4th June. 22 anglers landed 47 fish for 75lbs 8oz.
Top bag on the night and winner of the malt was H.Kane with 6 fish for
11lbs 10oz. He was fishing nymphs at the cages and rookery. Harry was
fishing in the same boat with third placed D.Paterson (5 fish for 9lbs
4oz). 2nd place was Derek Marklow with 5 fish for 10lbs 13oz. Derek was
fishing buzzers on the road shore. Stuart Fraser received a bottle for
the heaviest fish of 3lbs.
Current League leader Alan Ronald of Glasgow landed only a single fish,
but managed to hold on to his top of the league position. 2nd placed in
the league is K.McCabe (Edinburgh) and third is Dave Paterson of Stenhousemuir.
On Saturday 7th the 54 anglers taking part in the Scottish Interclub
Championships caught 86 fish weighing 156lbs. The winning 3 man
team was Horrywood AC with 14 fish for 24lbs 2oz, 2nd Brechin (B) with
9 fish for 18lbs 8oz and 3rd were Dunfermline Rusty Nail with 10 fish
for 18lbs 7oz. These clubs go forward to the semi-final on the 12th September.
The heaviest fish (4lb 6oz) was caught by I. Runcie of Brechin B. Most
productive angler on the night was fishing a booby on a DI7 line in Gateside
Bay. Further details of the top 4 individuals qualifying for the Champion
of Champions will be available in the competitions sponsor –
the Daily Record. The winning club, best individual and heaviest fish
all received Bowmore Whisky. The following teams are competing on the
14th June: Badenoch, Balbeggie B, Campsie AC, Caurnie, Creiff Fly B, Darvel,
Eaglesham A, Earlston B, Edin Mechanised, Falkirk Municipal B, Gartmore,
Glenburn B, Hawick, Lochgilphead B, Lochinch, Moncreiffe, Newtonmearns,
Pentland Flyfishers, St.Mungo.
SANA Open Championships 9th June: 19 boats (38 anglers)
landed 62 fish for 114lbs. Top 3 individuals were M.Willis (5 fish), Tom
Taggart (5 fish) and David Malcolm (4 fish). Top 3 pairs: Neil Anderson
and Fraser Robertson, John Brown and Kevin Neri and J.Scott & M.Willis.
