July Summary
The boat average catch for July was 3.25 fish for 7lbs 4oz - a little
less than last year, probably due to the hotter weather, particularly
early in the month, when water temperature at 6 ft reached 22C and the
fish went deep. Anglers should look out for good fishing (over summered
fish) to be had at the end of this hot spell. A massive hatch of roach
and perch fry early in the month also made it easy for the resident trout.
The fish have been in fantastic condition, and more recently have been
averaging over 2 ½ lbs in weight – strong nylon is a must.
Fishery Report: 29th July to 4th August
Water temperature is currently reading 19.5 C at 6ft.and clarity is showing
2m on the secchi disk. A wee bit of a bonanza this week as water temperatures
dipped. Best drifts have been Heronry, Malling Shore, Stable Point, Gateside
Bay and off the Road Shore. The fish have fallen mainly to intermediate
or floating lines and a variety of flies ranging from boobies, cats, blobs,
diawl bach, CDC’s, nymphs, snatchers and traditional wets.
