Water Temperature - 13C, Clarity (Secchi disc)2.2m.
A quieter week at the fishery has seen small increases in temperature and clarity and some fine catches. The whole loch has produced fish at various times. Last Wednesday in the ACS Boat League the Heronry and Butts produced the fish. Later in the week best catches were coming from Gateside Bay, Rookery, Reedy Point, Malling, The Islands and Tod Hole. Good hatches of mayfly and buzzers this week. The A873 is scheduled to be closed between Thornhill and BlairDrummond turnoff until 10th June (http://www.stirling.gov.uk/roadclosures)
Scottish Club Championships
SANA President David Ogg’s 3lb 8oz overwintered fish (pictured left) wasn’t big enough for the big fish prize in the Scottish Club Championships sponsored by the Angling Centre Stirling – this went to John Jarvie of Thistle AC with one of 3lbs 10oz. It did boost his bag weight though, and helped him qualify for the Champion of Champion’s. The 14 teams, 42 anglers, weighed in 128 fish for 284lbs. Top team on the night were St.Fillan and Lochearn with 15 fish for 29lbs 14 (P.Auchterlonie, R.Gilbert and George Whyte). There were quite a few limit bags and past Champion of Champion Peter Auchterlonie was unfortunate not to qualify due to the luck of the draw in landing smaller fish – he was perhaps the first to bag up at 7pm. Team mate and previous national champion Ronald Gilbert was also unlucky with his weight of fish as he was bagged up by 7.30pm. The 2nd placed team were Balfron Piscatorials with 13 fish for 28lbs 8oz and 3rd were Grizzlecats with 13 fish for 28lbs 4oz. The 5 heaviest bags on the night were D.Keenan (IBM), J.Fairlie (Piscatorials), A.Daisley (Sunburst), D. Ogg (Bothwell and Blantyre) and D.Lamb (Thistle). Top bag man D.Keenan was bagged up by 9.15 and was slowly fishing diawl bachs plus booby on a midge tip line in the cages.
Menteith Boat League: In the ACS Menteith Boat League last year’s winner Simon Littlejohn was top league angler on the night with 13 fish. Best rod on the night was 16 year old Calum Hardy from Denny with 14 fish. Calum was fishing in the Butts and was a guest of an experienced Boat League member who only managed 1 fish. In 2nd place was Jane Wright with 9 fish and 3rd was George Whyte with 8 fish. Simon was fishing a blob on the point plus 2 cormorants on a midge tip line - in the Heronry, Gateside and Rookery. 22 anglers landed 100 trout for 212lbs.
Club Results: Grangemouth 4 boats 28 fish 62lbs 10 rtd, Bank of Scot 5 boats 29 fish 63 lbs 24 rtd, Loanhead 5 boats 35 trout 71lbs, Denny 3.5 boats 14 fish 33lbs, Rothes Oak AC no return made, Western AC no return made, Rotary 15 boats 56 trout 133lbs, St.Mungo AC 9 boats 19 fish 43lbs, Edin/Glas Walton 6 boats 10 fish 25lbs.
