Fishery Blawg and Report 3rd May 2011
Clarity 2.9m Water Temperature at 6ft 13C.

Water temperature and clarity have remained steady. The unusual dry spell has dried up the burns and the paddle aeraitors and pumps are going full tilt in the rearing ponds to keep the fish happy. Mercifully low night time temperatures have helped keep the fish comfortable.  Resurfacing at Ward toll (near Gartmore) means diversions are in operation on south west approaches to the Lake (www.stirling.gov.uk/roadclosures).

Our first week of fly sales (Iain Barr Flies) at the lake have gone well  and popular purchases have been blobs, FABS, boobies, cormorants, harry potters, crunchers, buzzers, damsels and dancers. The bright sunshine and clear conditions have perhaps pushed the fish out into deeper water. Intermediate and D13 lines with cormorants/buzzers in combination with FABs and boobies have been popular. Best areas; Sandy Bay, Gateside clockwise to Lochend.

National Championship Heat Menteith 26th April Results

In second place was John Simpson of Ardrossan Eglington with 11 and 3rd was Ian Birch of Moncrieff with 8. Kevin took all his fish on buzzers and a floating line at Kates Brae and the Road Shore, whereas John and Ian used a slow glass with cormorants in Hotel Bay and Gateside Bay respectively.
