Welcome to The Lake

The Lake of Menteith is Scotland’s only natural lake and is internationally renowned for the quality of trout fishing and its rare Lowland beauty with the the Highland hills as a backdrop. It is the main venue for National Trout Fly Fishing Championships and is situated 20 minutes west of Stirling and under an hour from Glasgow or Edinburgh. The 700 acre water is stocked with top quality rainbow and brown trout which are reared on site by the company. Fishing is boat only from our fleet of 36 well maintained fifteen foot boats which are supplied with an outboard engine, oars, net and a drogue.

Lake of Menteith Fisheries

WEE FISH BIG FISH, FRY BASH AND DRY FLY TIME AT THE LAKE.
At the recent Police National Championship, rumour has it that the top tactic was trimmed back cdc dries but I also heard that the fish were fry bashing and then yesterday witnessed trout chasing these roach fry all round the beach after the boats went out. Usually think of pin head fry time from end of May but these ones are well grown but still must be this years hatch.. Made me wonder if the reason we don’t see the pinhead fry earlier is to do with the water temperature stratification not developing earlier….
WATER 6FT TEMP 14C CLARITY 3M
To give the fish more space in the coming heat and to avoid the road closure next week between the Port and the Rob Roy we increased the stocking with 1600 two to three pounders going in.
Jamie Picken Police National Angling Secretary with a good fish on the day. Full police results to follow.

A few images of the amazing Aurora Borealis display over the lake tonight.

The storm was so strong you had to look south to capture the rays.

Lake Data

The Lake fishing is boat only and the venue is popular for dry fly and buzzer fishing, the quality of the stocked and resident trout – and its very large pike. The low lying nature of the Lake and its irregular shape makes for an interesting drift, where shelter is easily found on windy days.

Our large fishery cabin contains a tackle shop and reception area with refreshments available – a great place to relax and discuss your day with fellow fishermen.

For the non-fisherman the area has lots to offer with walking, cycling, shopping and restaurants all within 20 minutes drive, the Lake of Menteith Hotel is next door and on the largest of the Lake’s three islands is the impressive and peaceful ruin of the 13th century Inchmahome Priory and the remains of the Earl of Menteithโ€™s Castle on Inch Talla. The Lake is designated a site of Special Scientific Interest due to the exceptional flora and fauna.
